Nur Adryana elevates Melaka’s reputation in Beijing


Nur Adryana Aisya Abdul Shukor, a native of Melaka, has brought pride to the country and her home state by winning a gold medal at the 17th International Earth Science Olympiad Competition in Beijing, China. The competition took place at Peking University, where Nur Adryana Aisya, 16, the only female participant among four representatives from Malaysia, clinched the gold medal through her Earth System Project.

Her success not only brought honor to herself but also placed her alongside five other gold medalists from the United States, Japan, Romania, Austria, and Belarus. In addition to Nur Adryana’s gold medal, the Malaysian team also secured one silver and five bronze medals at this year’s Olympiad.

Nur Adryana, a fourth-year student at Kolej Permata Insan, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, and a former student of SK Tun Syed Ahmad Shahabudin Ayer Keroh, has garnered attention from Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Adam Adli Abdul Halim. He congratulated Team Malaysia for their achievements at the International Earth Science Olympiad 2024 in Beijing, especially Nur Adryana for her outstanding performance.

The Earth Science Olympiad is a prestigious competition in the fields of geology, geophysics, oceanography, meteorology, terrestrial astronomy, and environmental science. Before heading to China, the Malaysian team underwent a seven-day intensive training program conducted by geological experts from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Perak.

Nur Adryana’s success serves as an inspiration to aspiring young scientists and showcases Malaysia’s talent in Earth sciences on the international stage. Her dedication, hard work, and passion for the subject have paid off, earning her a well-deserved gold medal.
