Fairmont High School in Fairmont, Minnesota, recently hosted its annual Activities Fair and Fall Pep Fest, giving high school students and their families an exclusive look at the sports and extracurricular activities available at the school. The event took place in the ‚Horseshoe‘ entrance at FHS, where tables were set up with demonstrations from various sports teams, including volleyball and soccer. Coaches, team captains, and club representatives were on hand to provide information and recruit potential teammates.

Mat Mahoney, the Activities Director, coach, and Physical Education teacher at Fairmont Area Schools, has been serving the school for over 10 years. He expressed his excitement for the event, calling it a great way to kick off the school year. The fair featured demonstrations from each sports team, with athletes showcasing their skills and offering insights into the benefits of joining their respective teams. Additionally, non-academic clubs like Debate, FFA, and Robotics were also represented at the event.

One of the highlights of the Pep Fest was the announcement of the fall production, which will be a performance of the classic musical „Grease.“ Students were encouraged to audition for roles in the production, even if they were involved in fall sports. The event also featured performances by the marching band and cheerleading squad, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The Activities Fair serves as an opportunity for incoming seventh graders to explore the wide range of extracurricular activities available at Fairmont High School. The event is carefully planned to align with team schedules and provide a fun and educational experience for students interested in joining clubs or sports teams. Mahoney emphasized the importance of students getting involved in extracurricular activities, stating that there is something for everyone at the school.

Registration for activities is done online and requires sports physicals updated every four years by a doctor. For families without online access, a computer is available in the Fairmont High School office for completing registration forms. The event saw a turnout of over 200 students, highlighting the interest and enthusiasm for extracurricular activities at Fairmont High School.
