Helping Shelter Pets at Colorado Animal Rescue’s 14th Annual ‚Dressed to the K9s‘ Gala

Jasmine, a sweet Red heeler mix, is currently up for adoption in Glenwood Springs. This spayed female is 3 years old, happy, and wiggly, making her the perfect addition to any loving family. Colorado Animal Rescue (C.A.R.E.) is working tirelessly to find Jasmine a forever home where she can thrive and be loved unconditionally.

In an effort to raise funds for veterinary care for shelter pets like Jasmine, C.A.R.E. will be hosting its 14th annual “Dressed To The K9s” fundraising gala on Saturday, Sept. 7. The event, which will take place at The Arts Campus at Willits (TACAW) in Basalt, aims to support the Thumper Fund, which ensures that every shelter pet receives the necessary medical care they may need. Last year, the gala raised an impressive $50,000, showcasing the community’s dedication to helping animals in need.

The gala promises attendees a night of entertainment, delicious food, and the opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause. From bites by Epicure to sweets from Sunshine & Moons, guests will be treated to a delightful evening in support of shelter pets. The event will also feature a fashion show, live fundraising for The Thumper Fund, and the presentation of the Animaltarian of the Year award.

Wes Boyd, C.A.R.E.’s executive director, emphasized the importance of the Thumper Fund in providing essential medical care to shelter pets. The fund covers everything from routine procedures to emergency surgeries, ensuring that all shelter animals receive the care they deserve. By supporting the Thumper Fund, animal lovers can make a significant impact on the lives of homeless pets in the community.

Despite the challenges posed by the current economy, C.A.R.E. has seen an increase in adoptions this year, with 341 pets finding loving homes. However, owner-relinquished pets continue to make up a significant portion of the shelter population, highlighting the need for affordable, pet-friendly housing in the Roaring Fork Valley. Boyd noted that the number of owner-relinquished pets at C.A.R.E. has increased by 60% compared to last year, with housing issues and behavior problems being the primary reasons for surrender.

To address the needs of shelter pets in the community, Boyd emphasized the importance of adoption, donations, and volunteering. By adopting a shelter pet, individuals can provide a loving home to an animal in need. Donations are crucial in supporting the care of shelter pets, especially as expenses continue to rise. Additionally, volunteers play a vital role in caring for shelter animals, assisting at events, and transporting animals in need.

For those interested in adopting a pet or supporting C.A.R.E.’s mission, more information can be found on their website at www.coloradoanimalrescue.org. By coming together as a community, we can make a difference in the lives of shelter pets like Jasmine and ensure that they receive the care and love they deserve.
