Lincoln County gears up for the start of fall sports this weekend


As fall approaches, sports season is in full swing in south Lincoln County. With a variety of home events scheduled for this weekend, fans are gearing up to support their local teams.

The Libby Loggers cross country teams will kick off the weekend with an invitational on Friday at 10 a.m. at Cabinet View Golf Course. This event will showcase the talent and dedication of the runners as they compete against other schools in the area.

Following the cross country meet, the Loggers soccer teams will also begin their season at home on Saturday. They will be hosting Frenchtown at J. Neils Memorial Park, with the girls game starting at 2:30 p.m. and the boys game following at 4:30 p.m. Fans can expect an exciting day of soccer action as the teams take to the field for their first games of the season.

While the cross country and soccer teams enjoy their home events, the Libby and Troy football squads will be hitting the road for their season openers. The Loggers, under the leadership of new head coach Kyle Hannah, will be facing off against Stevensville at 7 p.m. on Friday. Their first home game is scheduled for Friday, September 13, where they will take on Ronan.

For the Troy Trojans, their season opener will be on the road against Darby with a 5 p.m. kickoff. Fans can mark their calendars for the Trojans‘ first home game on Saturday, September 14, when they will go head-to-head against Valley Christian.

In addition to football and soccer, the Loggers girls volleyball team will be starting their season at the Frenchtown Tip-off Tournament on Friday. Their first home match will be on Tuesday, September 3, against Eureka in a Battle of the Kootenai showdown.

Meanwhile, Troy’s volleyball squad will be opening their season at Arlee on Saturday, September 7. Fans can look forward to their first home match on Saturday, September 21, when they will take on Darby in what promises to be an exciting matchup.

The Libby Loggers golf team has already begun their season, with the girls team competing at the Ronan Invitational last Thursday. Head coach Dann Rohrer praised the performances of Addison Skranak and Lucy DeShazer, who had impressive rounds. The boys team, although finishing last in the field, showed promise with Teague Thompson leading the way.

Rohrer expressed confidence in the team’s potential for improvement as they continue to work hard and hone their skills. The team will be heading to Whitefish Lake Golf Club on Tuesday, August 27, before hosting the Libby Invitational on Friday, September 13.

With a full schedule of home events and exciting matchups ahead, fans in south Lincoln County have plenty to look forward to this fall sports season. Whether it’s cheering on the cross country runners, soccer teams, football squads, volleyball players, or golfers, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and support in the local sports community.
