Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sumbagsel and Manggala Agni Collaborate to Educate Communities on Fire Prevention

In August 2024, Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sumbagsel, in collaboration with Manggala Agni, organized an educational training session on forest and land fire prevention in Desa Pulau Semambu, Ogan Ilir, Palembang. The primary objective of this initiative was to enhance the preparedness of the local community and establish a Community Fire Care (MPA) to prevent forest and land fires.

The training session included early education for children, with a simulation of fire extinguishing using fire blankets, as well as techniques for extinguishing fires for the community in the event of a large-scale fire. The participants also received education on the importance of preserving the environment and avoiding actions that could trigger fires.

The training and education provided by Pertamina in Desa Pulau Semambu received positive feedback from the community. One of the participants, Akbar, expressed the enthusiasm of the community in participating in all activities and hoped that similar initiatives could be carried out continuously.

Akbar stated, „We are very grateful to Pertamina and Manggala Agni for providing this education and training. We feel more prepared and confident in facing the threat of fires.“

Eka Rahmawati, the Head of Desa Pulau Semambu, added that the community greatly benefited from this initiative, gaining knowledge, skills, and the formation of MPA, which is expected to prevent and address fires more effectively.

Tjahyo Nikho Indrawan, the Area Manager of Communication, Relations & CSR at Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sumbagsel, emphasized Pertamina’s commitment to collaborating in fire prevention and mitigation efforts. The collaboration with Manggala Agni has had a positive impact on the community and the environment, particularly in safeguarding forests and lands from fire threats.

„With the partnership established with Manggala Agni, we hope that education, training, and the formation of MPA can motivate the community to actively participate in environmental conservation against forest and land fires. This agenda is also part of our joint commitment to supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 13 on Climate Action and Goal 15 on Terrestrial Ecosystems,“ concluded Nikho.

Overall, the collaboration between Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sumbagsel and Manggala Agni in educating communities on fire prevention is a significant step towards building a more resilient and environmentally conscious society. By empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills to prevent and combat fires, we can work together to protect our natural resources and create a safer environment for all.
