A shocking video has surfaced showing a dramatic incident involving a teen suspect who slammed a stolen car into several vehicles, hit a police officer, and then attempted to flee the scene on foot before being apprehended by police on a rooftop. The wild events unfolded in Queens, New York City, around 5 p.m. on a Sunday, as captured by bodycam footage from the NYPD.
The video shows 19-year-old Keyah Richardson driving a stolen white sedan when police attempted to pull him over. Instead of complying, Richardson recklessly backed up the sedan at high speed, causing chaos as he clipped another car, rolled over a traffic cone, and crashed into the metal shutters of a building. Miraculously, a mother and her small child narrowly escaped being hit by the out-of-control vehicle.
As a police officer tried to confront Richardson, the teen accelerated in an attempt to flee, driving against traffic down a one-way street. The stolen sedan struck another officer, pinning him between the car and a parked vehicle. Despite the officer’s commands to stop, Richardson continued to speed away, smashing into several vehicles along the narrow street.
After ditching the car a few blocks away, Richardson tried to evade police by fleeing via a subway platform. However, the NYPD was determined not to let him escape after his reckless actions endangered lives. Officers pursued Richardson as he ran onto a street, climbed a ladder to reach the roof of a building, and then jumped onto a second roof before ultimately being trapped and captured by police.
Aerial video footage captured the intense moment when several officers arrested Richardson atop the roof, with additional officers overhead on a tower ladder. NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry commended the efforts of the police, stating that their swift action led to the apprehension of the suspect and the recovery of another stolen car, ensuring the safety of the community and the officers involved.
The officer who was struck by the sedan was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Richardson, a resident of Brooklyn, was charged with attempted aggravated murder, reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, possession of burglar tools, and criminal possession of a weapon. Despite his young age, Richardson now faces serious consequences for his dangerous actions.
